Our free peace training will help you improve peacebuilding and development work. We provide hands-on knowledge for you to create positive societal change.

Rotary’s Free Peace Training

The strategic partnership between Rotary and the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) inspired the creation of The Rotary Positive Peace Academy.

It is a free peace training in the form of a short course available in English and Spanish, which introduces the transformational framework of Positive Peace.

Peace is a cornerstone of Rotary’s mission and the organization believes that “when people work to create peace in their communities, that change can have a global effect”.

As a result, Rotary works to create environments of peace through undertaking service projects and supporting peace fellowships and scholarships.

The Rotary Positive Peace Academy educates Rotarians in IEP’s technical research on Positive Peace. The Positive Peace framework, empirically derived by IEP, uses statistical analysis to identify the common characteristics of the world’s most peaceful countries.

The Peace Academy aims to help Rotarians use these concepts to improve their peacebuilding and development work.

This non-partisan Positive Peace Academy provides the knowledge from a neutral baseline. Learners can create their own practical approach to peaceful societal change – whether at home, in business, or in the community.

IEP created the course content and it was developed with Rotarians in mind. Through this course, learners will strengthen their knowledge and identify concrete ways to enhance and engage in Rotary’s work in peace and conflict resolution and the Areas of Focus – all via a Positive Peace lens.

Course details

The course introduces learners to a broad overview of Peace and Conflict related issues and the concepts of positive and negative peace. This free peace training expands on Positive Peace to examine how we can develop it. We also explore the relationship of Positive Peace to several areas of peacebuilding.

The Academy brings theory into practice and learners are able to examine how Positive Peace can impact our homes, Rotary Clubs, cities and nations, through investigating real world cases.

Examples include stories of Rotary projects so learners can relate to the work as they go through the academy.

Upon completion of the four modules, you will:

  • Understand the definition of peace and how it is measured
  • Comprehend the 8 Pillars of Positive Peace
  • Learn how Positive Peace builds long term health and resilience of societies
  • Find out why higher levels of Positive Peace lead to: stronger resilience, better environmental outcomes, higher measures of wellbeing, better performance of development goals and higher per capita income
  • Examine Positive Peace projects from all over the world

The Rotary Positive Peace Academy includes:

  • # of Lessons: 12 lessons under 4 modules
  • Format: On-demand videos, exercises and interactive content
  • Languages: English and Spanish
  • Device Agnostic: Accessible across mobile, tablet and desktop devices
  • No time constraint: Learners can take the full course at once or it can be self-paced
  • Lifetime access: the Academy allows for lifetime access so learners can watch and re-take the course at their convenience.
  • Certificate of completion: After completing the Academy, we provide learners with a downloadable certificate. You can share your success with an employer or the Rotary club.
